Nick Leddy Contract Restructure Request
2015-16: 0.94 fpts/game (81 games) - Tier 3 2014-15: 0.94 fpts/game (78 games) - Tier 3 2013-14: 0.72 fpts/game (82 games) - Depth 2012-13: 0.77 fpts/game (48 games) - Depth
Average over four years is 0.85 fpts/game to be classified as Tier 3
Nick's most recent two years have classified within the $2-3M range. However, he has had a couple of depth years and his four year average puts him within the $1.5-2M range.
Based on the consideration above, the Boston Bruins extend Nick Leddy a three year contract at $2M annually.

4. If the player does not fall into the bridge contract rule, based on fpts/game from current season (for short term), and weighing average production for previous seasons, offer the player a contract based on their salary range. NOTE: If the player has 2+ full seasons where he was in a higher TIER production, the salary range MUST be one step higher. If the player has 2+ full seasons where he had lower TIER production, the salary range MAY be one step lower. NOTE2: For long term contracts (3-4 years), average production over past 4 seasons, as well as players potential moving forward can be factored in to drive the contract up one or 2 salary ranges (hence why they are called salary guidelines not salary rules)
Based on this, for the past 2 seasons his salary has been in one tier higher. With this in mind, the contract is a little low in my opinion, off by like 500k.
Denied 0-1.

He has two solid years at .94 and should probably be at 2.5m a year since that is pretty much spot on what the chart suggests for .94ppg. I have to deny this one but would approve at 2.5 For 1-4 years.

With this in mind, the contract is a little low in my opinion, off by like 500k. Denied 0-1. So I was looking at these clauses and was a little confused on how it applied to Leddy. However this was my take: Leddy's average of 4 year production was Tier 3. Therefore he didn't actually have any seasons where his production for a single season was in a higher tier group than his 4 year average. He has 2 most recent seasons where his production was right in line with his average. However, he did have two full seasons (41+ games) that were in a lower production tier than his 4 year average so I think I would actually be able to drop it into a lower production tier if I wanted. This is why I gave Leddy the minimum Salary within the 0.9-9.99 fpts range of $2M which is based off his most recent seasons rather than the actual 4 year average.
I think that this would be a fair contract given the rules/guidelines outlined and some other contracts we have seen but am open to see what other people think.
At the end of the day if I have to bump it up $500K I can do that.

Yeah he has two seasons below and above which makes it harder. Like Buff, I'd accept the value at 2.5M, not sure about length.

Here are my thoughts, Its a little confusing and i have definately had a trial by fire on these re-signs. Since his two most recent years are almost identical year 3-4 don't really factor in much. If year 2-3 were at a lower tier or ppg level you could argue the last year on record could be an outlier and offer a 2 year bridge deal at a lower level citing those two years as evidence which i would support easily. Since he has two years of almost identical production one would think this level of production is probably what should be expected in the future years of his deal. In my opinion give him 4 x 2.5m and call it a day

denied
I would have approved a show me deal of 1 year at 2M or 2.25 for 2 years but if you want to sign him to 3/4 years then it's 2.5 M at the lowest.
