The offseason is upon us and it will be a busy one! I've put together the timelines for this offseason! Biggest ones to note right away are that trading has opened and that you can now start submitting your re-sign submissions. Remember you have 3 total for this offseason (for all RFAs and UFAs).
Offseason Schedule
Trading Re-Opens: Immediately
Draft Lottery: June 1, 2017, 8 PM EST (Will host a live stream for it)
Buyout period opens: June 1 12 PM EST - September 30 11:59 PM EST
Re-Sign Submissions: Immediately - June 16 11:59 PM EST
Re-Sign Period: June 17 12 PM EST - July 22 11:59 PM EST
2017 FH2O Entry Draft: Starts July 6, 2017 8PM EST
RFA signing period: July 23 12PM EST - August 12 11:59 PM EST
RFA 1 year re-sign period: August 13 12 PM EST - August 19 11:59 PM EST
UFA period: August 20 12:00 PM EST
Miscellaneous
1) Roster pages: With us having the master sheet and Fantrax to track salaries and draft pick ownership, I see no purpose in also needing to maintain individual roster pages on the forum. Instead of deleting them, I've made each team a moderator of their board and it can now be your creative space, do with it as you please.
2) Master Sheet: I have slowly started making updates to team's pages on the Sheets, mainly to prepare for the upcoming rule changes (quoted below), but also to look into the possibility of increasing the # of re-signs allowed in future years and if a higher salary cap will be needed to accommodate a larger number of players becoming FA (and still allow teams to remain competitive).
Other than that, enjoy the rest of the NHL playoffs and a nice break from the league, and I'll talk to some of you on June 1 for the FH2O Draft Live Stream! As always, any questions or concerns, please PM me.
Cheers!

Effective Offseason 2017
Contract Sliding for Players with less than 10 GP
We will be eliminating the free buyout and contract sliding for free agency players with less than 10 GP.
1) During the current buyout period or during the summer buyout period, teams will have one last opportunity to drop, without penalty, any player they signed with less than 10 GP that they do not wish to keep:
2) Once this period is closed, all existing contracts will no longer slide indefinitely until a player reaches 10 GP. Instead it will expire like any other contract.
3) If a GM wishes to rid themselves of the contract, they must follow the usual buyout procedure
4) The Excel Sheet will be updated to separate drafted and signed prospects. All drafted prospects under 10GP will be placed in the “In the System” section, while all free agency signed prospects with under 10GP will be placed in the “Minors” section. Once a drafted player plays 10 GP, they will need to be moved into the “Minors” section
a. Drafted players’ contracts will slide for 3 years or until they play 10 GP to account for development time. This will also apply to inherited prospects from the start of the league (players drafted from 2016 will have 2 slide years left, 2015, 1 slide year left)
b. Within the 3 years, if a team wishes to drop a drafted prospect, they may during one of the buyout periods by posting in the waivers thread and stating that the move is an unconditional buyout. Once confirmed, regular waiver procedure will proceed and if no one claims the prospect, then they will become a UFA.
c. After 3 years have passed, the player is moved into the minors and the regular buyout procedure applies
Free Agency Updates
Active Bid Update
Teams will now be required to have the available cap space to account for all active bids, you will no longer be able to account for waiving/demoting/buying out a player to open cap space for a bid. If you do not have the available cap space, it must be made available BEFORE the bid is placed. It does not matter if the player can be sent down immediately, a team must wait until that player is signed and the thread is created demoting the player before the cap space is available again.
Example: Toronto has $10 million in available cap space and $8 million in active bids. The maximum bid he can place is $2 million. If he wishes to place a bid of more than $2 million, then he must FIRST make a move to open up the roster space (demote, waive, buyout a player), THEN the bid can be placed
NOTE: To easily enforce this, teams will be required to maintain an active bids/cap remaining table on their XLS as can be seen here (Toronto’s tab in the Google XLS). If you need help setting this up, please let me know and I can set it up for you.
Free Agency Priority List
The second free agency rule to be implemented this offseason is the free agency priority list. This list will only come into effect for any bids that are at the max of not counting towards the cap (i.e., bids of $1.9 million). Once a bid of this amount is posted, other teams will be allowed to match the bid (as long as they have the cap space available). If no team raises the bid and the 24-hour window passes, the winning team will be the highest team on the free agency priority list. The winning team will then be moved to the bottom of the free agency priority list.
The list will be based on the reverse standings of this season (excluding playoff results), and will be reset each year at the completion of the regular season.
