Patrick Sharp, W - 16/17 - .87 - Tier 3 15/16 - 1.36 - Tier 2 14/15 - 1.27 - Tier 2 13/14 - 1.72 - Tier 1
Patrick Sharp's health threw a wrench into the spokes of his latest season. He's finally showing his age and he had a huge drop off in production.
Based on the fall off rule, I am only able to offer him a 1yr deal, although at a discounted rate and we're hoping he can have a bounce back season.
Therefore, we offer him a 1yr deal @ 2.5 M

Would maybe like to see the deal at 2.75-3M, because of his past successes, but with his age up there and his injury issues now, this is a good deal to make. Approved.

This is a guy who had injury issues last year but his upside is so high and there is literally no risk in a 1 year deal. I personally think if young players should have future growth projected into their offers, i would think older veterans should have a premium on the salary values when the contract duration is short minimize the GM's risk. I think this is too low for someone that could be realistically in the 5m/yr category but rules say he should be in the 2-3m range
I cannot approve

Sharpie is definitely getting up there in age and his production last year was down but he has proven to be a pretty good goal scorer in the NHL and injuries played a factor. His decline is imminent but with the potential value he holds I think 2.5 for one year is a touch too low albeit not far off. If he's getting one year, I'd like to see him somewhere in the mid 3's.

I appreciate the explanations, except Chris, if you think its a bit low that is fine, but to say my offer isn't valid because you don't agree with the fall-off rule that isn't really fair. The rules are established already and sure they are open to being tinkered with but I feel like that is something that needs to get dealt with in the mods section and not used as a reason to deny my re-sign. The whole reason I kept Sharp was that the rules allowed me to get him for cheaper than if he went to UFA, I don't think many people would offer him the 5 Mil you're saying he's worth even in UFA.

Not to clutter things up.. I never said i believed the offer was invalid. I expressed my personal opinion on the offer, similar to how others have done on this offer and other offers in the past. I was just stating given his past production it wouldn't be unrealistic to expect his ppg to rise back to the ppg level of the 5m cap hit level. If the offer had been 3-3.5m range i wouldn't have said a word and just approved it.

Ok fair enough dude, I realize now that it is a little low. I misread the part about the 5M, I just thought your explanation was a little off track and didn't really help me for my potential 2nd try.

So he needs to be one tier higher given his recent seasons were in a higher production tier. Also, the weighted average is higher so he should be in the high end of the next tier. I think this means he should be in the high end of the 0.9-0.99 tier, so ~$3mm.

Not sure if this is required, but I also think these should be in the high end of 0.9-0.99 tier. Agree with the fall off rule but the salary is a little low.
