2018/2019: 1.5 fpts/game (53 games) Tier 1 2017/2018: 1.53 fpts/game (79 games) Tier 1 2016/2017: 1.76 fpts/game (77 games) Tier 1 2015/2016: 1.8 fpts/game (82 games) Tier 1
$6.5m x 4 years
- Same production tier for the previous 4 years - No upward trend in production - Offered him at the top of his most recent salary bracket because of Erik's 4-year weighted average

His 4 year avg is 1.65 which puts him at 7m. I’d be ok with your offer for 2 years but Jacob was just forced to pay a 1.75m premium to get a 2nd year on his laine resign because he had a big previous season. Ek has 2 big season in his last 4 and did 1.5 last year playing hurt all season. I think there needs to be a premium added to lock up those 2 extra years.

I disagree Chris. Laine qualified for a bridge and fall off deal. he's also very young.
Karlsson is not a bridge deal player and he's not getting any younger. This offer is the max of his recent season bracket to compliment his past.

Based off his two previous years I would be ok with this salary, but only for a year or two.
When you look at his recent numbers the main thing pulling him down from being a 1.7 - 1.8 fppg guy is his goals scored and power play numbers. This is due to a bad Ottawa roster and then joining a new team in san jose. He only scored 3 goals in his 53 games with the sharks. That is not something we should expect going forward, hes only 29. I think his most recent seasons make this to much of a bargain over 4 years, should be higher with that term.

2-2. Both arguments make fair points, I have my doubts he'll ever put up the numbers he did in Ottawa looking at how San Jose spreads out the D ice time.
This (among others) make a strong case for another tier added between Elite and Tier 1. Better argument could then be made for Karlsson to be higher.

Well this is going no where so I guess I'll do it.
This is tough, it's close but I'm going to reject.
The potential is there for this to be a wicked steal. When he was healthy this year, EK still showed he can be EK. He's going to be surrounded by a lot of talent and no doubt will produce. I don't think the last two seasons give the full story with him with the trade and everything either. He could easily bump up to the 1.6-1.7 range IMO. He's starting to get up there in age as well, and the injuries are a concern but fuck the Sharks just gave him 92M. He's got a lot of elite hockey left. Bump the AAV up 500K and I'm fine with it. I'm sorry.
