Evgeni Malkin
2019/2020: 2.11 fppg (55 GP) - ELITE 2018/2019: 1.61 fppg (68 GP) - Tier 1 2017/2018: 1.89 fppg (78 GP) - Tier 1 2016/2017: 1.75 fppg (62GP) - Tier 1
Malkin had a good season last year which was above normal. So I took an average of his last 4 seasons which was a 1.84 average. San jose thought it would be fair to offer the following for this 34 year old player:
$8,300,000 x 3 years

Denied 0-1. He'll have to be signed to a bridge contract since this is his only Elite tier season in the past 4. Only way to go longer term here would be on a max contract given his most recent year.
His most recent season is still his most productive as well, I'd argue this should be closer to 8.75M/year.

I really had to think about this one. I’d like to see 8.75x2 which is pretty textbook resign. Then I looked at his age and the fact last year appears more of an outlier than expectation for following next 2-3 years. I don’t think the 3rd year is a real benefit for malkin owner and gives the owner some risk as he could drop off in his 36/37 yr old final year.
Due to these factors I’m actually ok with it.

Denied 1-2.
Sorry Alex, I agree with Jacob. Malkin will need to be signed to a 1 or 2 year bridge deal.
I also agree with the 8.75m as you're able to offer the salary at one range lower.

I think there is a lot of risking in going to three seasons. Malkin will be 37 by the end of the contract, and last season was his best season since 11-12, so definitely more of an outlier than anything. He has also shown to be injury prone, which could get worse with age. While I would like to see a bit higher, I think the extra year on this actually drive his price down, making this a more doable contract (in terms of a re-sign). If you take the previous four seasons prior to this past year, he is right at 1.7 fpts/g, and missing 14+ games in all but one season. He bumped his price up from the top of the 7.25-8 range, and while I might like it higher (8.5 range), im not going to deny it on account of a couple hundred thousand dollars.

I totally see all the points in the replies and it makes sense in real life to offer a longer term/ lower cap hit but in a fantasy league there isn't as much risk as in real life. At the moment there's no clause in our rules that allow for a player to get a pay cut as they head into their +35 yr deals and although 19/20 is an outlier in the last 4 seasons, he's clearly showing that he's not declining yet. In reference to the bridge deal I'd allow a 3 yr deal at around 8.75 to meet you halfway.
Declined
