I've noticed quite a few of GM's google sheets have some incorrect contracts with guys in your minors/prospects. In most cases it is not your fault as one of the mods has deleted the 16/17 column or you're reading the "contract sliding" and being like "Ok... I got this", then reading the slide rule changes and being like "Ok wtf is going on here"
So anyways I would like to try and simplify it and in most cases you guys will be able to add a year to some of your players, so it's not a bad thing!
Contract sliding just means that your prospect does not lose a year of their deal until they hit one the contract milestones. Their contract does not age essentially.
Basically, If your player checks ALL of these 3 boxes below then they should have 3 year deals remaining at the moment regardless of how many they had last season.
1. Player is either drafted by a GM in the league or inherited in the original rosters that were chosen by a GM in the league.
If a player is signed as a UFA then they are not eligible for contract sliding no matter when they were drafted. Now for some of you that's pretty easy, but if you trade for a player or you are a second (or third) generation GM you may have to do some research to find out the origin of these players.
2. Player has played less than 10 GP in the NHL.
As soon as a player crosses that 10 GP threshold he will become part of your normal minors crew and his contract ages like everyone else.
3. Player was drafted in the 2014, '15, '16, or '17 draft.
Players contracts don't age for 3 seasons after they were drafted. So basically if your player was drafted in one of those years their contract doesn't age until after the 17/18 season. 15' draftees won't age until after the 18/19 season and so on.
Now if a player doesn't meet ALL of these criteria then they shall age like any other player.
We would like you to separate your guys that have sliding contracts from your guys that don't if you haven't done so already and label them similar to either TOR's google sheets or WPG's google sheets.
Also reminding you guys that all the RFA's and UFA's that are signed need to have a spot on your roster, even if temporarily, and the CAP room available to be valid. They also need to pass through waivers(if above 41 GP) if you wish to send them down immediately even if they were in your minors before the signing.
If you guys have any questions regarding contracts or anything really, don't hesitate to ask a MOD, if you don't know you're MODs they are WPG, TOR, PIT, NSH, or BUF. We're all very friendly dudes and are available on What's APP or on the forum.
