consensus appears to be best case scenario he is back for the playoffs...
Best timeline i can find. Please add to IR starting Jan 24th. Thornton has been placed on the injured reserve list as he had surgery to repair his right medial collateral ligament and is in danger is missing the remainder of the regular season.

Just saw this. Only allowed placing retroactively when we first started it. First return date is March 3 or he has to remain on your roster (on regular IR).

curious about this as there wasn't any real injury information available until after he had an MRI done. If it looks bad can I just submit him when it happens? In this case I waited for more accurate injury information before I submitted him.

If the early prognosis looks like week-to-week or minimum 3-4 weeks, then yeah submit him right away (a link with as much injury info available is always appreciated). He underwent arthroscopic surgery on Jan 25 so would've been enough for the approval then. www.rotoworld.com/recent/nhl/721/joe-thornton

I couldn’t find anything that said 4 weeks. I will keep him on ir as I doubt he returns before playoffs.
