I may have mentioned how my Chicago Blackhawks, the 12th seed in the playoffs, upset two higher seeded teams in route to a nailbiting finish in the Cup finals. Came down to the last games.
For my tremendous playoff success I was awarded the 19th pick in the draft. The team that won received a bonus pick. A team that won a playoff pick 'em game also received a bonus pick.
This doesn't seem like a fair return.
I proposed that the team that wins the cup would receive a bonus 2nd Round pick.
Team that loses in the cup finals- bonus 3rd round pick.
Teams that lose in semi-finals, bonus 4th round picks.
Teams that win the pick em game - 5th round pick.
There was some debate on Discord, but I don't have that set up on my computer, and I'm in training for my new gig.
Colin - a genius in his own right suggested, maybe instead of a pick, but an extra resign or buyout (maybe that was something else, but y'all all look alike.)
I also suggested that draft spots should be frozen at the end of the regular season, my reasoning is the regular season is a true reflection of the team's weaknesses as opposed to a. lucky six-week run.
Others have proposed a cash award. Maybe $5-10 (American, can't buy a pack of gum with Canadian money)
Some wanted a plaque to be sent.
I would be up for either or, but not something that is sent from owner to owner. Each season a new award is sent, fresh. But money is easier. Winner gets 50%, 2nd place gets 25%, 3rd and 4th get 12.5% each.
Thanks to Jacob for reminding me to post this thread.

Hey Eddie - I’m sorry but I don’t quite understand what you’re suggest with this, could you please explain further “I also suggested that playoffs spots should be frozen at the end of the regular season, my reasoning is the regular season is a true reflection of the team's weaknesses as opposed to a. lucky six-week run.”

Sure, it was a bit late when I was posting.
So the draft slots are frozen at the end of the regular season. Other than the lottery places if you finished the season with the best record, you have the last pick in the first round. If a team had the fifth best record, they pick in the corresponding slot. So the playoffs have no bearing on your draft pick slot.

First, Eddie thanks for posting this! I agree, we should be rewarding teams that go deep in the playoffs better and if we implement something, it'll be retroactive. I also prefer bonus re-sign/free buyout/extension over additional picks and think they allow a team to remain competitive longer. I disagree on freezing standings after regular season though. If we were to do that, we would need to include a strength of schedule (SoS) adjustment to balance draft position. We've seen top 3 fantasy points for teams almost miss the playoffs due to brutal schedules. Some teams also finish higher in the standings due to weak SoS (I've benefited a couple of years). I prefer following IRL, but if anything MAYBE we could do post-first round re-adjusts to regular season standings + deep playoff teams get their prize. P.S. Sorry to hear about that $4 packs of gum in the US, it's only ~$1 CAD here

Freezing the draft order based on standings: How about this? For each playoff round you win, you get one of the above? The draft order can then be based off the standings, and the "prizes" would negate the worse picks. So in my case, I would get 2 of 3 possible outcomes, manager's choice - Re-sign, buyout, extension. I think that would be a fantastic solution. I do like the idea of the 2nd round re-adjust. Pack of gum, no way- Your pack of gum must be flavorless or tastes like maple syrup. I get the pick 35 piece packs of Extra- $10 for 7 packs. That's a lot of gum.

I personally dislike the idea of giving the championship teams or teams who go far any kind of major prizes like "re-signs, buyouts, extensions".
I liked draft pick prizes as they likely get downloaded to weaker teams. The top end teams will be more likely to deal their picks for players as they'll have a chance to win more picks, meaning less of a benefit to high-end teams.
Things like extra re-signs/buyouts are way too powerful and would create an imbalance I think. Keeping the same teams on top every year. The main reward for winning is to say you won, but keeping that same team together should be a challenge. That's part of the fun,as hypothetically it creates a cycle of when teams are good/bad.
External prizes like trophies are fine, and I think would serve the purpose of rewarding teams who have success perfectly, without the downside of making things harder on lower teams

As long as teams who do get prizes for 2nd and 3rd place as opposed to being penalized I can be okay with almost any solution. Almost any.
